The challenge
In an auction, timing is the product. When many people bid at once, the platform has to accept, order, and broadcast every bid instantly and fairly. Listings also need moderation and categorization, which becomes a bottleneck when it is done manually.
What we built
- A WebSocket-based bidding engine that handles simultaneous bids with sub-100ms latency
- AI image analysis that scans uploaded item photos and flags inappropriate content
- Automatic categorization of listings, so sellers don't have to classify items by hand
- Cloud image storage and delivery through Cloudinary
- A MERN-stack architecture built for high-concurrency traffic
